Here is an update on the new The Huntsman: Winter’s War starring Chris Hemsworth, who is reprising his role as Eric the Huntsman on the flip…
If you remember back in 2012, Snow White and The Huntsman hit movie theaters, but shortly after the film released it was followed by cheating headlines.
Twilight star Kristen Stewart (Snow White) had landed a new franchise, but Stewart’s leading role was cut after she got caught up in scandal, sleeping with director Rupert Sanders, who was 19 years her senior at the time.
Not only did she ruin a marriage, but she and Robert Pattison, her love interest in the Twilight saga split and went their own ways. Since then, Stewart’s career has taken a couple turns and she is no longer part of The Huntsman franchise.
At first Universal struggled over how to make a sequel to Snow White And The Huntsman after the first film made $396 million. Then the studio came up with a brilliant idea to make the sequel a prequel and focus on box office gold, Chris Hemsworth aka The Huntsman himself.
At the time, no one would have guessed the studio was ruthless enough to simply subtract her from the equation completely to make The Huntsman, but it had to be done. The scandal was a bad look for everyone. The franchise needed to go on, and what better way to build on a story that Snow White never has to be a part of, well for now. Maybe in time Stewart can return, or when the studio feels movie goers forgot about her and the director’s very public affair.
With that said, Universal moved forward with their prequel, giving it a title The Huntsman: Winter’s War. They decided to bring back Charlize Theron‘s Raveena and introduce a new character, Emily Blunt to play Raveena’s sister Freya. With the three of them playing off it other, the movie looks to be another box office success with better results.
As for Universal and Stewart, well let’s just say that was a well needed divorce. Director Rupert Sanders also received his walking papers and was replaced by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. The story for this installment was created and developed by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Craig Mazin and Evan Daugherty. With all these changes in motion The Huntsman: Winter’s War would give the franchise a fresh start.
Fast forward to now, Universal has released the newest trailer for the upcoming April 22, 2016 release of The Huntsman: Winter’s War as Ravenna and her sister Freya battle it out good vs evil.
Who needs Snow White for this twisted telling?
It only gets better, Universal has also stacked the actors deck with another talented actress (Jessica Chastain), who plays Sara, who is the love interest for The Huntsman, Hemsworth. Now there is one catch, The Huntsman is Freya’s loyal protectors, and Eric is forbidden to fall in love with a fellow Huntsman, so this makes a good night at the movies.
So get your popcorn, grab a soda and sit back to be wowed by The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and give a round of applause to Charlize Theron who is getting $10 million to reprise her role as the evil queen Ravenna.
In case you were unaware, Theron, 39, demanded equal pay to Chris, 31, stating that she has a great track record, so she got the same deal, which she does!
Now you may notice one thing when you watch this trailer, Hemsworth’s Huntsman continues to feel superfluous in his own movie. Perhaps that’s because The Huntsman: Winter’s War feels like nothing so much as a gritty reboot of Frozen.
But don’t take it from us, watch the trailer and you decide:
What do you think about the new trailer? Will you be heading out to see The Huntsman: Winter’s War or will you wait a week to see Captain America: Civil War instead?
This summer season is going to be hard with DC Comic and Marvel Superheroes dominating almost every other month at the box office.
