Flip and find out what will be happening to the Alpha Omega Worshipers in War of the Planet of the Apes…
The big question is, “will the Apes franchise reboot finally introduce the malformed antagonists to the nu-Apesverse?”
In 1970s Beneath, the mutants lived underground and worshipped a doomsday weapon called the Alpha-Omega bomb. We all know that the Alpha Omega’s were a terrifying, nightmarish cult of bomb worshippers, but how will director Matt Reeves reinvent the them?
In Empire’s great trailer breakdown with War director Matt Reeves, he notes:
“The troops (Woody Harrelson) leads are a particularly hardened splinter unit called the Alpha Omega. That’s a little reference to Beneath The Planet Of The Apes. Alpha and Omega is the beginning and the end, and they feel that’s what they represent for humanity.”
Meanwhile, Andy Serkis – dished that the Simian Flu, the result of James Franco’s Alzheimer’s cure that wiped out most of humanity isn’t done mutating. If you haven’t seen any of the Planet of the Apes films, the cure basically smartened up the apes and killed humans.
Serkis leaked this to IGN:
“…Even though approximately 12 years have passed since the events in Rise, the flu and ALZ are still working their way through the human and ape societies.
“They’re discovering how much the virus is affecting humanity and bringing them to yet another…,” Serkis says before choosing his words carefully. “The virus is having a rebirth and is actually becoming much more aggressive and attacking the humans in another way too.”
This would solidify how man becomes ape and ape becomes man. It’s an interesting regression/progression of the franchise. That would tie in the original concept of the 1970s franchise with an updated twist of how man took out the human race. Kind of what we’re doing now with technology, dummifying our youths so they become socially inapt. Many people today have forgot how to live without a cellphone or tablet at their finger tips. People should take a day off from technology and enjoy the world, and no that does not mean go out and film virtual films. It means hike, bike, go to the beach, enjoy family and friends before they’re gone.
What do you think will happen to the Alpha Omega Worshipers?
