CelebnMovies247.com reports that the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series is heading to Amazon courtesy of horror maestro James Wan.

Sony Pictures TV Studios co-president Jason Clodfelter said in a statement:

We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios. Neal Moritz and Original Films’ development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.

A theatrical reboot of the series, loosely based on the novel of the same name, was previously announced in 2016 with then-up-and-coming writer/director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) set to co-write and direct the project. After languishing for three years that attempt is now dead.

What Amazon is saying about “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

Albert Cheng, COO, and co-head of television at Amazon Studios said in a statement:

The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie. Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan-favorite film.

The 1997 film version, directed by Jim Gillespie with a script by Kevin Williamson, stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze, Jr. as a group of high school students who accidentally hit and kill a man with their car one night. Although they believe they have successfully covered up their crime, the group finds themselves at the receiving end of a slasher killer’s serial rampage one year later.

The horror movie success landed a theatrical sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer in 1998. I Know What You Did Last Summer landed a third installment that went straight to On Demand in 2006, titled, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Series details:

I Know What You Did Last Summer series will be produced by Neal Moritz alongside Original Film’s Payun Shatty, Atomic Monster’s Wan, Rob Hackett, and Michael Clear, while Shay Hatten, who was originally set to pen the pilot, will executive produce with Goodman and Erik Feig.
