Anton Yelchin Joins The 27 Club list:
Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison all died at the age of 27 between 1969 and 1971. The “27 Club” became a Hollywood saying for celebrities who NEVER made it to 28.
Brian Jones was the first rocker to die at 27, The Rolling Stones guitarist found dead in his pool in 1969.
In the 90s Kurt Cobain died at 27. According to the book Heavier Than Heaven, when Cobain died, his sister claimed as a child he would talk about how he wanted to join the so-called 27 Club. In 2011 Amy Winehouse passed away. In 95, Echo and the Bunnymen lost their drummer Pete de Freitas. The Manic Street Preachers Richey James Edwards went missing and is now presumed dead. Other groups including Canned Heat, The Drifters, Uriah Heep, The Grateful Dead and Big Star have all lost members aged 27. Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow, lost her Hole bass guitarist Kristen Pfaff from a heroin overdose.
The 27 Club list consist from a list of musicians who ALL died from overdose, suicide or freak accidents like Star Trek Beyond star Anton Yelchin, who was killed by his own car rolling down a his driveway in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles, pinning him against a security fence and a brick mailbox.
Celebs have been taking to Twitter devastated by the news of Anton Yelchin dead at 27. Harold and Kumar and fellow Star Trek star, John Cho, who appears as Sulu opposite Yelchin’s Chekhov in the rebooted Star Trek movies says:
“I’m in ruins.”
“He was a great pal and a great son.”
Star Trek director J.J. Abrams also shared his thoughts on Twitter:
“You were brilliant. You were kind. You were funny as hell, and supremely talented.”
Fellow Star Trek stars like Zachary Quinto was also devastated by the news writing:
“our dear friend. our comrade. our Anton. one of the most open and intellectually curious people i have ever had the pleasure to know. so enormously talented and generous of heart. wise beyond his years. and gone before his time. all love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief.”
