Surprise!!!! Aquaman ended up becoming the biggest ever DC movie following its release in 2018. so what’s gonna happen next? Read on to get more about the upcoming Aquaman 2 movie…
CelebNMovies247.com reports that Warner Bros and DC were said to be developing a sequel soon after Aquaman’s release, but it took until February 2019 for it to be officially confirmed.
So what can Jason Momoa fans expect from the upcoming Aquaman sequel?
Warner Bros and DC made sure to bring back the original films co-writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick who were hired to pen the sequel’s script.
James Wan is also returning as producer alongside Peter Safran. So, what else do we know about our return to Atlantis?
Warner Bros has confirmed that the sequel will swim into cinemas on December 16, 2022, four years after the first movie was released.
Aquaman 2 Brings Back The Original Cast:
Pretty much every major player is expected to return for the sequel, so that’s Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, AKA Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen as Black Manta and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus.
Momoa has been so keen for a sequel that he pitched an idea for it to Warner Bros even while they were shooting the first movie.
Jason had this vision for the sequel:
Even before the movie had hit cinemas, we had an idea of how it was going to end, courtesy of MomoaHe was born with the powers but he never really harnessed them, honed them. Obviously [the first film] is his whole origin story. We’ve seen him in Justice League, which is maybe two minutes of his old life, so we get to see where he came from.
I think when he was a little boy, he had these powers and he didn’t really hone them, so this whole journey of him going to become the king… the last frame of this movie you’re going to see him actually become what he’s destined to be.
Sure enough, the end of the movie sees Arthur defeat Orm and take his rightful place at king of Atlantis, with Mera by his side. This comes shortly after he dons Aquaman’s classic orange-and-green costume for the first time.
It’s safe to say that the sequel is likely to pick up in the early days of the reign of the new King Aquaman, probably dealing with the first threat that he faces as lord of Atlantis.
Aquamans Villains Will Be Black Manta and His Half Brother
Black Manta will likely be back for more as he’s rescued by Dr Stephen Shin (Randall Park) in the mid-credits scene. Black Manta is Aquaman’s greatest foe
Patrick Wilson’s Orm/Ocean Master. Aquaman’s villainous half-brother might have been stopped, but Aquaman crucially spares his life. Wilson confirmed he is involved in the project, but was reticent on revealing any details. “I’m slightly briefed [on Orm-related matters]. I just throw a little dart here and there.”
Before Aquaman, the DCU has two great movies coming out in 2020 starting with Birds of Prey in February and Wonder Woman 1984 in June to kick of summer.
We will have to wait until 2022 for Aquaman 2.
Perhaps we’ll end up seeing The Trench spin-off before Aquaman 2?
