Flip and get more on what’s happening with Beetlejuice 2…
Here is what we’ve learned.
A large part of this may have to do with Burton’s schedule. Currently, he’s busy with the upcoming fall’s new release Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and it’s possible that production for Disney’s live action remake of Dumbo isn’t far off. With so much on his plate, it’s likely Burton doesn’t currently have the time to develop the Beetlejuice 2 script into something he feels confident in.
Michael Keaton, who played the titular role in the original Beetlejuice, was recently interviewed by Variety about his upcoming role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but while he was there, they were sure to ask him if he had heard any updates on a sequel to Beetlejuice. – ScreenRant
Michael Keaton responded:
“You always hear things, that this is happening, and people seem to know more about it than I do… It’s possible that ship has sailed.”
Though, admittedly uninformed on the matter, Keaton did follow-up with his feelings about the sequel:
“The only way to do it is to do it right. So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone… There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad s— happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred.“
This seems to mirror the feelings of Burton himself, who seems reluctant to risk tainting the legacy of his original classic.
Burton said previously:
“It’s one of those films where it has to be right. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy.”
Honestly at this point Tim and the cast should leave Beatlejuice alone. If there are fears of ruining the legacy, 9 times out of 10, that is what will happen.
Come up with a news idea and run with that. Let’s put Beatlejuice 2 to rest.
