Black Panther RULES Holiday Weekend in Box Office

As of Sunday morning, Disney’s estimates for the opening weekend of Black Panther peg the Ryan Coogler directed movie as pulling in $192 million for the three-day weekend and $218 million for the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend.

Black Panther becomes the fifth movie to open over $200 million over its opening weekend. Not only that, the film has also made history as the first African American directed Marvel movie.

According to Box Office Mojo Black Panther results for the three-day weekend are $201,797,000, domestically it pulled in $235,000,000 for the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend. The Disney/Marvel movie pulled in another $169,000,000 foreign. Globally Black Panther is a box office beast too with an estimated three-day opening of $361 million.

Black Panther comes in at number five for biggest Marvel movie openings just behind The Avengers at $207.4 million and above Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s opening at $191.3 million. Panther’s number also blow Deadpool‘s previous record-setting $152 million out of the water for the biggest Presidents’ Day weekend.

In addition to the films success can be accredited to an A+ CinemaScore. Black Panther is the only Marvel movie to pull in such a grade besides The Avengers in 2012.

The Marvel Movie empire continues to flourish while many are pointing out that Black Panther is looking to make almost as much in its opening weekend as Justice League did in its entire box office run.
