Find out the latest casting 411 news on the flip…
Here is what CelebNMovies247.com knows thus far about the announcement via Deadline, which is basically nothing, since there’s no word on what role Merchant might be playing.
We are thinking that somehow Stephen Merchant and British actor Richard E. Grant who was also announced as another addition today will be joining Hugh Jackman in Wolverine 3.
Richard E. Grant will be playing “a villainous mad-scientist type”, but that all further plot details are being kept under wraps. – Hollywood Reporter.
We feel that Merchant will be doing something both comic and sinister alongside Richard E. Grant mad scientist role. Maybe a particularly sassy henchman working in Grant’s mad scientist lab.
The movie is heading towards a May start with Patrick Stewart, who will play X-Men leader Professor X, and Boyd Holbrook, who is set to play Jackman’s nemesis. – BirthMoviesDeath
Can you see Stephen Merchant as a mutant?
Next, is the continuation of the 80s children’s toy franchise which has somehow turned into a Hollywood blockbuster full of explosions, sexy women fighting and screaming as Hasbro’s Transformer battles out the fight for humanity on the big screen.
What’s new with the Mark Wahlberg trilogy this time around? Well the $3.7 billion money-maker and growing franchise is pushing forward, but studio executives are promising big changes ahead of Transformers 5.
One of these big changes might be addressing one of the biggest critical complaints about the series. Yep, the hot topic regarding the Transformers 5 camp right now is that 14-year old Nickelodeon actress Isabela Moner — who is on board to star as Izabella — will in fact be the lead character of the upcoming movie (as reported by The Wrap).
“Moner is poised to play the young female lead of Izabella, a street-smart tomboy who grew up an orphan and was raised in foster care. She counts a small Transformer as her only friend… until she meets Wahlberg’s heroic inventor Cade Yeager.”
The Transformers series has been plagued with accusations of sexism, and reports of Bay’s attitude towards the series lead female stars Megan Fox and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have been, shall we say, less than glowing. Bringing in a female lead could go some way towards resolving this critical flaw, but it all depends on the treatment of the character, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Hopefully we get less booty shots since we are going with a younger lead and trying to stay a little more true to the animated series that continues to play out on Disney DX daily, especially given that both Transformers 6 and 7 have been given the green light. – The Wrap
‘Transformers 5’ is set for release June 23, 2017.
Last, but not least is the new addition to the long-awaited Blade Runner 2 film that star Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista and the newly added Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks.
Sylvia Hoeks joins the Denis Villeneuve directed sci-fi sequel, who has landed a coveted leading role.
The “Blade Runner” sequel, which is set several decades after the original, from Alcon and Warner Bros. will begin shooting in July, it was announced Tuesday.
The script was written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick‘s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.”
Story details are not being revealed, and Warners will release the “Blade Runner” sequel on Oct. 6, 2017.
Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will produce along with Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, while Bud Yorkin, the late producer of Ridley Scott‘s original 1982 classic, will also receive a producer credit.
Scott will executive produce along with Thunderbird Films CEOs Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, as well as Bill Carraro. Gifted cinematographer Roger Deakin will reunite with Villeneuve on the project, following “Sicario” and “Prisoners.” – The Wrap
Alcon’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove said in a joint statement:
“Sylvia is a radiant talent, a tremendous actress with great appeal in a wide variety of roles. Her addition to this vastly accomplished international cast is a perfect fit.”
What else has Sylvia Hoeks done?
In 2013 Hoeks starred alongside Geoffrey Rush in Giuseppe Tornatore’s “The Best Offer.” The film was a box office hit in several European countries and was nominated for Best Film at the European Film Awards.
Hoeks next stars alongside Sullivan Stapleton and J.K. Simmons in EuropaCorp’s action-thriller “The Lake.” She’s represented by ICM Partners, Willemijn Tuip/Copper en Co and Cheryl Snow at Gang Tyre Ramer and Brown.
