CASTING 411: Tessa Thompson

“Creed” actress Tessa Thompson is eyeing a jump to the Marvel universe as the thesp has joined “Thor: Ragnarok.”

Tessa Thompson was recently featured as the female lead in the box-office success “Creed,” and prior to that was a supporting cast member in “Selma,” as her breakout role was the star of the indie feature film darling “Dear White People.”

She will join Chris Hemsworth, the Norse God in the superhero sequel, which co-stars his “Avengers” counterpart Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk). Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett is also in talks to play an unknown role.

Taika Waiti in on board to direct “Ragnarok” with Stephany Folsom recently polished the script.

Kevin Feige will produce the film, which hits theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.

What else is up with Tessa Thompson?

Currently, the Greene & Associates Talent Agency and Mosaic repped actress is filming a female lead role in the HBO Drama Series “Westworld” and has also been cast in a female lead role opposite Natalie Portman in “Annihilation” for director Alex Garland, produced by Scott Rudin. Thompson also has a strong supporting role in the feature film in the John Michael McDonagh directed film “War on Everyone,” which premiered at SXSW. – Variety

The Casting 411 continues since Scott Eastwood Joins the cast of Fast 8!

Yes, the son of Clint Eastwood, Scott Eastwood is getting a fast pass via Universal to star in Fast 8 which will introduce Scott in as exciting new character.

He will join another newcomer to the franchise in Charlize Theron, the Mad Max: Fury Road heroine who made her deal last week.

The Fast & Furious team has excelled in adding juicy new parts to an already humming franchise engine, from Tyrese Gibson to Dwayne Johnson to most recently Jason Statham in last year’s tentpole hit Fast 7. That comes as the franchise dealt with the tragic death of Paul Walker in a car crash, which came while Fast 7 was in production.

Eastwood and Theron are now buckled in as director F. Gary Gray and producer Neal Moritz move into production next month with franchise regulars including Vin Diesel, Johnson, Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese and others in the mix. Chris Morgan wrote the script, and a release date of April 14, 2017 has been set. – Deadline

We have more Casting 411, Elizabeth Debicki Joins Simon Baker’s Directorial Debut ‘Breath’!

Elizabeth Debicki, Richard Roxburgh and Rachael Blake have joined the cast of Simon Baker’s Australian drama “Breath.” has learned via Variety that filming has begun in Australia on Baker’s feature film directorial debut, based on Tim Winton’s best-selling novel. ‘Breath’ is set in mid-70s coastal Australia. The film will follow two teenage boys, hungry for discovery, that form an unlikely friendship with a mysterious older adventurer, who pushes them to take risks that will have a lasting and profound impact on their lives.

The films producers are Baker, Gran Via Productions’ Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad,” “The Notebook,” “Rain Man”) and See Pictures’ Jamie Hilton (“Little Death”).

The film is financed by ScreenAustralia, ScreenWest, Great Southern Development Commission and Autumn Productions. Executive producers are Tom Williams, Johnny MacDonald, David Hansen and Laura Rister.

The novel has been adapted for the screen by Baker, Tim Winton (“The Turning”), Peter Duncan (“Rake”) and Gerard Lee (“Top of the Lake”).

Embankment Films is selling international rights, CAA and Untitled are representing North America, and Palace Films is distributing the film in Australia and New Zealand.

Debicki’s credits include “The Great Gatsby,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel. Roxburgh starred in “Moulin Rouge,” “The Turning” and “Mission: Impossible II.” Blake’s credits include “Sleeping Beauty” and “Rake.”
