When Don’t Look Up was first announced back in February, McKay spoke of his excitement to have Jennifer Lawrence onboard.

He said:

I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite talent’. And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.

More Cate Blanchett Projects on the way:

In addition to Don’t Look Up, Blanchett has also signed on for Ad Astra director James Gray’s new movie Armageddon Times.

The film is based on Gray’s own experiences at Kew-Forest School, where President Donald Trump was once a student.

The actress also finished filming her part for Guillermo del Toro’s thriller Nightmare Alley, in which she stars alongside Bradley Cooper. Production on the project has since been stalled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

These two movies add to what will be a busy year for Blanchett, who can currently be seen in the FX series Mrs. America and will also be starring in the film adaptation of Borderlands, which will see her re-team with director Eli Roth.

Don’t Look Up is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
