Sigourney Weaver Ellen Ripley Story Ends in Neill Blomkamp ‘Alien’

While most of us have heard that Neill Blomkamp ‘Alien’ film has basically been smashed to smithereens by Ridley Scott, there is a glimmer of hope.

If you recall, after Sigourney Weaver and director Neill Blomkamp worked together on Chappie, they started talking about an Alien prequel. Blomkamp film would be after Aliens and before Alien 3, which would kill Ripley. It basically wouldn’t have any effect on the third and forth installments. In Alien Resurrection, Ripley is a clone, so no worries fans.

The promising film looked to be full steam ahead, until Ridley Scott pulled a change up with his Prometheus 2 film. Scott apparently changed things up and decided to go back to Alien with Covenant. The Sci-Fi horror film will bring the scares back to the Alien universe in a prequel slated for release on May 19, 2017.

Why did Ridley Scott change up on Neill Blomkamp?

RUMORS have been swirling ever since he decided to go back to his Alien universe with Covenant. However, some feel that Neill Blomkamp’s penned sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 Aliens possibly made Scott jealous. Or maybe he was afraid of the franchise being taken out of his grasp? There is no official word on why Ridley pulled his change up, but it has left Blomkamp’s Alien on the back-burner.

Every once in a while we get some buzz on whats up with Blomkamp’s planned sequel. Most recently, Sigourney Weaver confirmed that she is still holding out hope. Moreover, Sigourney confirmed to Variety that his Alien would end Ripley’s story, which was something she had been campaigning for-for years.

Neill Blomkamp Alien news:

If you recall, like Bloody-Disgusting points out, she said that she always wanted Ripley to return to the Xeno home planet to “kill them all.”

Weaver said:

“I hope that Neill Blomkamp and I will eventually get back to it. He’s written such a wonderful script. I look forward to finishing Ripley’s story.“

We can’t wait for Ridley Scott’s new film, but we also look forward to Blomkamp’s planned sequel hopefully one day soon.

Let’s not forget, Covenant is a new trilogy, which means that he’s going to be incredibly busy telling his story that’s to eventually bridge Prometheus into Alien. So we will see if Scott will ever allow Blomkamp to make his Alien movie.
