Emily Blunt is a very versatile actress, but she is trying to figure out how to tackle the Mary Poppins sequel. Get more on the flip…
Disney has decided to move forward with beloved nanny from Disney’s 1964 children’s film, casting Emily Blunt as Poppins.
Here is what we’ve learned:
The movie is a co-production between Walt Disney Studio’s, and Matt Platt Productions, and will also star Meryl Streep and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda
The Devil Wears Prada actress admits in an interview with HeyuGuys.com, she will follow Julie Andrews in the role ahead of rehearsals which will begin in November.
“I think I just have to do my version of it. It’s quite hard to sum up what my version of it is yet. I think I’m still trying to figure it out and work it out and I’m sure I’ll have a better idea by the time I start shooting.”
Emily also reveals that she will draw upon P.L. Travers’ original series of novels rather than Julie’s performance. This way Blunt will have a more organic approach to the role, so she doesn’t look like she is stealing from Andrews performance.
She continues to explain:
“I’ve been much closer to the books. I think the books are offering a lot of different ideas.”
The film will follow Mary revisiting Jane and Michael, the two children whose care she was charged with in the original movie as adults, with her now having to bring joy and new experiences to Michael’s three children.
Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled for release in 2018.
We feel Emily will be superb. She is such a great actress.
