The first trailer for “Assassins Creed” was released Wednesday night — and it was packed with plenty of questions and only a few answers. has your first look at a sexy shirtless Michael Fassbender assassin, who is informed that his previous life as lead character Callum Lynch is over.

Fassbender asks, “Where am I?”

Only to be told by Marion Cotillard that at 6 p.m. the day before he was executed and pronounced dead, she tells him:

“Welcome to the Spanish Inquisition.”

“Assassin’s Creed” has been Fassbender’s passion project of late also stars Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams. It is directed by Justin Kurzel and produced by Jean-Julien Baronnet, Gérard Guillemot, Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley, Michael Fassbender, Conor McCaughan and Arnon Milchan.

Here is the film’s synopsis from 20th Century Fox:

A revolutionary technology unlocks Lynch (Fassbender) genetic memories, he experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

A shirtless Fassbender proclaims “We work in the dark to serve the light … we are assassins,” closing out the dark trailer as soundtrack by Kanye West blasts out.

We have to admit The footage itself is undeniably gorgeous, and there’s a few killer compositions scattered throughout the sea of pixels being used to bring the 15th century to life.

“Assassin’s Creed” hits theaters Dec. 21.
