The last we heard is everything was going as planned on Godzilla 2, but now it’s been confirmed that Gareth Edwards will no longer be directing Godzilla 2, CelebNMovies247.com has learned.

According to Deadline, Edwards parting ways with with Legendary Entertainment was an amicable one. Edwards has just got off directing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and apparently has his own project that he wants to pursue.

Gareth’s movie is on a much smaller scale than the likes of both Godzilla and Star Wars, but its a passion project so we get it, Star Wars was a huge film to direct and it appears he wants something easier for a minute.

As for the sequel, currently, no director has taken his place but we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open for any news.

Luckily there is still time, so we don’t have to worry about Godzilla meeting its deadline date for a 2019 release.

Godzilla 2 has a release date of March 22nd, 2019 and it will be the precursor to Godzilla vs Kong, which will be coming over a year later on May 20th, 2020.
