Bowie, best known for his music and role in Labyrinth as the manipulative Goblin King is getting a reboot. CelebNMovies247.com has the latest details on the Labyrinth Remake on the flip…
We all love the beloved 1986 classic, mostly due to David Bowie and his music the is a major part of the soundtrack, but also because the story teaches a valuable lesson for children.
CelebNMovies247.com has learned via The Hollywood Reporter, that the Jim Henson-directed film, which featured some of the genius puppeteer’s best work, had a script by the great Terry Jones, and was executive produced by George Lucas, is being developed.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should pay close attention, as Nicole Perlman, who worked on the Guardians of the Galaxy script and who has been tapped to bring Captain Marvel to the screen down the line, will tackle the writing duties. Even though the Labyrinth remake is housed at Sony arm Tri-Star, it’s not entirely leaving the family, as Jim Henson’s daughter, Lisa Henson, CEO of the Jim Henson Company, will produce.
We would put our money on Jared Leto, because he seems to be the right man for the role. He can play manipulative and he has a great voice. He is creative and having a Thirty Seconds To Mars soundtrack doesn’t sound half bad.
As for the bratty teen Sarah, played by a young Jennifer Connelly, we think this could be a great role for Star Wars The Force Awakens lead, Daisy Ridley. Our other choice would be Chloe Moretz, she has everything the role requires. She is smart, talented and can play innocent yet bratty very well.
Sarah is pitted against time in a HUGE Labyrinth maze to rescue her little brother from the clutches of the Goblin King, who also happens to be named Jareth. As she fights to get closer, the Goblin King taunts and tricks her with obstacles to overcome.
When the movie was released in 86, Labyrinth was classified a box office bomb, but over time if became a bonafide cult classic. The movie was just before its time, like the Wizard of OZ and Rocky Horror Picture Show, both bonafide cult classics as well.
So far the details are scarce but it sounds like a reboot thus far. This is not the first time there have been talks of a Labyrinth remake, but Jim Henson Company ultimately decided not to proceed—though.
Like we said, it is still in the very early stages, but we’ll keep you informed as we know more.
