Watch the Alien Covenant first look trailer…
Last year, 20 th Century Fox celebrated with a “12 Days of Deadpool,” this year they hit fans with a deluge of photos and a teaser trailer leading up to the Alien Covenant trailer people were dying to see.
20 th Century Fox is kicking off the big summer movie offerings with their highly anticipated Sci-fi horror franchise. Recently Fox pushed up the release date from Aug. 5 to May 19, which sent the entire summer release calendar into chaos. Now Alien is set for a pre-Memorial Day weekend. The trailer promises to be another positive rebirth of Ridley Scott’s R-rated straight-up Alien prequel / Prometheus sequel.
The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
For almost 40 years Alien has been scaring moviegoers and now Alien Covenant promises to scare a whole new generation of sci-fi horror fans.
Over the years, Alien has proved to be a successful franchise for FOX, except for the tragic mistake, Alien 3, which almost annihilated the franchise in 1992. The 1979 Alien was an automatic hit, earning $ 78.9 million domestic ($270m adjusted for 2016). It’s sequel, Aliens increased the franchise success combining horror with action in 1986 earning $85.1m domestic (around $197m in 2016 bucks).
Alien 3 took in $55 million domestic and $ 159m worldwide. The fourth film, Alien: Resurrection earned $47m domestic and $ 161m worldwide in 1997 almost 20 years after the original film. The Alien franchise expanded with two films that had nothing to do with the franchise. AVP: Alien vs. Predator, which earned $80,281,096 domestic $172,543,519 worldwide. Next was Alien vs. Predator Requiem hit screens in 2007 earning $128.9 million domestic.
The biggest Alien hit was Prometheus, an Alien prequel as an “scientists discover the origins of humanity.” Prometheus breathed new life into Ridley Scott’s weakened franchise. The best thing about Prometheus is that it earned $126m domestic and $403m worldwide on a $130m budget.
