Flip and get more BITES on Mulan Live-Action Movie + who are the Females up for Han Solo Lead…
Disney has Mulan on the fast-track with a target release date of Nov. 2, 2018 3D release, which was announced Tuesday.
The news that the studio is turning its 1998 classic animated hit into a live-action title comes after such successes as Maleficent, The Jungle Book and Cinderella, among other titles. And Disney is currently gearing up for the release of Beauty and the Beast, which opens March 17 and is expected to be one of the top-grossing titles of 2017.
The studio also announced that Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World) were brought aboard to rewrite a spec script for Mulan that Disney bought in 2015. Jaffa and Silver also are working on the Avatar sequel.
The Disney team saw the spec, by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin, as a jumping off point for a more nuanced and elaborate adaptation, combining the legendary Chiense ballad and the 1998 animated film.
A director for Mulan has yet to be announced. Jason Reed is attached to produce along with Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.
Mulan Live-action movie will hit screen on November 2, 2018.
Who is in the running to play the female lead?
According to Variety, Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott are among the actresses in the mix for the Star Wars spinoff.
All three have undergone a second round of testing for the part, following a first round earlier this summer. Their sources say it could still be “a couple weeks” before the filmmakers make up their minds.
Slash Films reports that we might have already been introduced to Han Solo’s main squeeze.
In fact, it’s an interesting bit of speculation that cropped up over the summer, though, was that she could be San Solo. In case you are NOT familiar, San is a blaster-wielding pilot who’s kinda-sorta married to Han Solo in the comics. They got hitched as cover for a job they pulled years back but, as Jacob put it, “one of them took it a little more seriously than the other.”
Check this comic strip evidence, which means that Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott could be playing San Solo, or not.
As for, Donald Glover, it appears that he seems to be inching closer to nabbing that Lando Calrissian role. He emerged as the front runner over the summer. However, Disney and Lucasfilm have reportedly commissioned a second round of testing before making a final decision.
The Han Solo movie hits theaters May 25, 2018.
