Flip and get more details on Pacific Rim 2…
We are now less than two years away from the release of Pacific Rim 2 from visionary Guillermo del Toro, who will hand over director duties to Spartacus and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Steven S. DeKnight.
Guillermo del Toro will still be producing the film, so he will have final say.
As for the cast, this time around, it’s already been confirmed that Attack on The Block and Star Wars Trilogy star John Boyega, will pilot a Jaeger to kick some serious Kaiju ass. Boyega will be playing the son of Idris Elba’s badass military man Stacker Pentecost.
Previously, producer del Toro has hinted about the sequel’s tone:
“Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel. I was never interested in doing that first wave of invasion.”
“I’m going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one – but you will get a really great spectacle.”
Meanwhile Deadline reports:
In addition to Boyega being in Pacific Rim 2, Legendary has eyes on Clint Eastwood’s son Scott Eastwood for a key role alongside John Boyega in the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise.
Deadline revealed June 6 that Legendary was building the Steven S. DeKnight-directed sequel around the Star Wars: The Force Awakens star, and the company is now casting up in earnest and I think Eastwood will be the next to join the fold if his deal makes.
The picture begins production late this year, based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham.
The original Pacific Rim made over $400 million at the worldwide box office in 2013.
