Read our FULL Rogue One: A Star Wars Story review…
Rogue One is the first of the standalone spin off films that promises greatness in the future of the standalone franchise around the Star Wars movies.
We cannot express enough, Rouge One is an amazing film, which takes place a short time before Star Wars,” in a galaxy far, far away.
Last week we gave you some insight on the 28-minute feature that had us wanting more. Well sorry to burst your bubble but there will be no spoilers on this film. What we told you is all you will get. What we can say is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is an incredible addition to the Star Wars Universe. The movie is gritty, raw, and fast paced. It takes you right into the action on the war between the rebels and the empire.
Rogue One Appeal:
Rogue One really shows you how cruel the Empire truly is, more so, in this film than any other. If you were one of the fans, like ourselves, who was waiting in long lines back in 1977 to see Star Wars, you’re going to want to see this. Remember being a kid and begging mom and dad to see Star Wars. And then once you saw it, you couldn’t get enough? So, you saw Star Wars 10 more times at the theater, because VHS, DVDs and on Demand did not exist. Movies did pop up on HBO, Starz, or Cinemax 3 months later. Your only way to see movies was at a movie theater, remember those days? Well Rogue One is one of those movies you NEED to see at a movie theater.
If you’re like us, you want to be in the action. “Godzilla” director Gareth Edwards, accomplishes that goal and takes it a step further. This film caters to fans who saw the first one 40 years ago, Gareth told us “George Lucas loved the film” and we understand why.
Our Spoiler Free Rogue One review:
Have you ever wondered how the rebels got the Death Star plans? Who were the rebels that helped to take down the Empire?
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is their story. The movie is the perfect feature film that sets the foundation to a lot of unexplained things in New Hope. It also is a great prequel, in case you don’t want to see the first three Star Wars films that did pack the punch of its predecessors. This Star Wars movie is made for grownups. Its everything we have all wanted and more from Star Wars. This time Star Wars fanatics like ourselves can really feel the Empire’s rule and the rebel’s desperation to win back the galaxy’s freedom.
Could you imagine a galaxy of oppression?
The Rebels vs The Empire was like WWII and our fight to take out Hitler, in this case, Darth Vader. The movie is filled with new classic moments. And insight on Darth Vader and some references to Star Wars: A New Hope that will have fans lining back up two and three times to watch this film at theaters. Rogue One also expands on the Jedi’s and the Force, one of the world’s favorite myths that continues to its increasingly cult-like appeal.
Applause to the Rogue One Cast:
We can’t praise Gareth Edwards enough for making such an incredible film. Producers Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, Simon Emanuel have outdone themselves. Rogue One is a new classic film in the Star Wars Universe right next to George Lucas and LucasFlims original three movies. Being able to make a film and add all the complexities by pulling in that right combination of relevance makes Rogue One a remarkable film. Not to mention the outstanding performances by Cassian Andor (Diego Luna, “Y Tu Mamá También”), Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and Saw Gerrera (Forrest Whitiker). Standout performances by Chirrut Îmwe (Hong Kong martial arts star Donnie Yen), Baze Malbus (Chinese auteur Wen Jiang, “Let the Bullets Fly”), Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), K-2SO (voiced by Disney regular Alan Tudyk) and Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed, “Four Lions”).
The CGI of Rogue One:
One thing we will say about the movie is that the CGI is out of this world. We all know Rogue One is a prequel to 4,5 and 6 – the films of Princess Lea, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. What we found remarkable was how they brought back a couple characters via CGI. We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but all we can say is the CGI in Rogue One has taken things to new and perfected lengths. The actor has been dead now for more than 20 years, and if you’re a Star Wars fan you might know who we are talking about. His CGI gives a better performance than some other actors in the cast.
In closing Rogue One exceeds all expectations and delivers a masterpiece in filmmaking. The movie was impeccable. Thank you, Mr. Edwards, for an astonishing vision of what happened before A New Hope. Hats off to you sir for a remarkable movie.
The film opens everywhere on December 16, 2016.
