Flip and get more on Shrek 5…
With the record breaking new hit The Secret Life of Pets, Universal is pulling a Disney Animation and Pixar merger. Word is Universal (Illumination Entertainment) is set to acquire DreamWorks Pictures.
OMG! This will be interesting since they are Disney’s main competitors.
BirthMoviesDeath just tipped us off:
Get out of my swamp if you don’t like this news, because us Shrekkers have gone six years without a Shrek movie, and twelve without a good one. The DreamWorks deal is set to close by August per THR, and while the film won’t come out until February 2019 (thus dethroning Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 as the year’s most exciting tent pole), it’s a relief to those of us who thought the series’ swan song would be a spinoff where Zach Galifianakis plays an egg.
THR also reports that a 2019 date has been set for Shadows, a new film from Edgar Wright. While that would ordinarily be THE big news, the possibility of Shrek 5 means a whole new generation can experience a sincere message of self-acceptance sandwiched between fart jokes and crotch gags, just like us true ’90s kids did in 2001. No word on returning cast members, or whether Adam Baldwin will play the villain (as so many within the fandom desire), but we’ll keep you posted on any developments
We are actaully looking forward to a new Shrek since it’s one of those animated films that can continue to drop a new sequel and it never gets boring. The tales are endless since they’re in a place Far Far Far Away…
