Damon Wayans Jr used twitter to weigh in on the 4th of July, since most black people don’t feel it’s a holiday that includes the black community. Read on…
Instead, the former “New Girl” star tweeted on Tuesday, “Happy white people proud of their racist ancestors day.”
We get it, a lot of black people don’t like to celebrate the 4th of July because of slavery, because of oppression and because police brutality. But July 4 is the day Americans celebrate the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation.
Damon Jr poked fun at it with his tweet by pointing out the negative aspect. The 4th of July may not had been for black people back in 1776, but it is now. Instead of dwelling on the 300 years ago, people need to focus on the now. Jokes like Damon Jr’s only dwells on the past, if he wants to celebrate the holiday take it, own it and make it your own.
We just doubt Damon Jr struggled like any of our forefathers, or any of the American people who gave up their lives to let inner-racial dating not be a crime, fought for our rights as a people, struggled for equality, gay rights, women’s rights, black rights or any of the above?
Instead he jokes and pokes fun at the 4th. We just ask this one question. Is Damon Jr trying to say he didn’t go to a BBQ, hang with friends at a pool party or watch the fireworks on the 4th of July? If he can actually say “No I did NOT.” Then he is doing what he tweeted. If he did celebrate, then this whole tweet is a contradiction and he looks foolish.
Here is what Twitter had to say:
