What’s Up With Star Trek 4? Is Hemsworth + Pegg on Board?

When you think of Star Trek with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and the late Anton Yelchin all you can say is perfect onscreen chemistry. But after Yelchin was tragically killed the franchise hit a wall.

Now, Star Trek is back in talks with Paramount but there are some road bumps that need to be smoothed out first. Continue on to hear what’s up with the Star Trek 4???

CelebNMovies247.com has the latest talks on what is going on with Star Trek coming back to the big screen for more adventures.

What we’ve learned:

Fans have been waiting for Star Trek 4 for, appropriately enough, four years now, with Paramount being unable to get the franchise’s next cinematic project off the ground.

What we are hearing from Deadline is that there are three different versions of the next Trek movie that exist and how the studio is dedicated to moving forward with one of them in the next few weeks.

The original plan was following Star Trek Beyond, it was announced that ST4 would be a time travel story featuring Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk meeting his father, George, as played by Chris Hemsworth.

The combination of two of the big four Hollywood Chrises, plus Trek‘s first-ever female director in S.J. Clarkson, made this a very noteworthy project. And then it got shelved due to negotiations breaking down with the two stars.

It was initially said that Pine and Hemsworth walked away due to contractual disputes, though the latter Chris later clarified that he left the project as he was “underwhelmed” with the plans for the movie. Pine, meanwhile, seemed much more positive about the chances of him returning to the captain’s chair on the Enterprise when asked.

Deadline has this report:

Paramount stuck a pin in it, the plan to next make the Star Trek movie by Noah Hawley has been paused. New film chief Emma Watts, who managed many a franchise at Fox, is in the process of figuring out which way to go.

The reason this idea might come back around is that things aren’t going smoothly with the other two movies that were being developed to replace it. Quentin Tarantino has pulled out of directing his R-rated take on the Trek universe inspired by classic gangster-themed The Original Series episode, “A Piece of the Action.”

The Noah Hawley’s reboot, about a viral plague wiping out half the galaxy, has stalled, because of its too close to real-life content at this time.

Paramount will make their big decision about which version of Star Trek 4 to progress with very soon.

That is NOT ALL, according to WGTC, Simon Pegg, the Mission: Impossible star clearly isn’t happy, and we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones that told us a Captain Pike spinoff is in the works well before Strange New Worlds was officially announced, and that a Witcher prequel is in development long before Netflix revealed it – that he’s refusing to return unless he gets a much more substantial role, and presumably a bigger paycheck as well.

As of now, having been kept in the dark for so long, Pegg is refusing to play ball unless his demands are met. In addition to Pegg, there is no word if the original crew has decided to be back on board the enterprise for another adventure.

Star Trek 4 needs Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho alongside Captain Kirk, Chris Pine.

They are movie magic, so Paramount don’t break up a good thing, pay the salaries.
