Adam Driver Replacing Affleck In Ridley Scott Thriller ‘The Last Duel’

CelebNMovies247.com has learned that Driver is in discussions to take on a role that was to be played by Ben Affleck who will instead move into a different, supporting part due to scheduling issues with another film.

What have we learned about the upcoming Ridley Scott film?

According to Variety “The Last Duel” is set in 14th-century France and follows the tale of two knights “whose bond is tested by treachery.”

The movie is an epic tale of betrayal and justice, told from three distinct points of view: two knights (Damon and Driver) whose bond is tested by treachery and a young woman (Comer) forced to navigate the brutal and oppressive culture of the era in order to survive.

“Killing Eve” actress Jodie Comer is also slated to star in the film.

Damon and Affleck previously collaborated on “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, and they wrote “The Last Duel” screenplay with indie filmmaker Nicole Holofcener. It’s based on the book “The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France.” Affleck will assume a supporting role instead due to scheduling conflicts with New Regency’s “Deep Water,” which he had already signed on to.

Disney and Fox have not yet greenlit the film and are still deciding how to proceed. If it does get the go-ahead, “The Last Duel” should begin production in early 2020.

Driver stars in the upcoming “Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker,” as well as the Oscar-buzzed drama “Marriage Story.”

NOTE: Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, an adaptation of the 2004 novel by Eric Jager.
