Fresh off her success from A Wrinkle In Time, Ava DuVernay will be directing her favorite comic book character was DC’s Big Barda in DC’s New Gods.
Ava DuVernay revealed her love for the DC comicbook The New Gods and the wife of Mister Miracle which features Big Barda.
The New Gods will serve to expand the DC cinematic universe launched by Zack Snyder in 2013. The new DCEU live-action movie will join the list of in development projects at the studio which includes The Batman, Flashpoint, Man of Steel 2, Nightwing, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Booster Gold and Justice League Dark.
The New Gods, aka “The Fourth World” saga was created by Kirby in 1971 and debuted in a trilogy of related comics which introduced DC villains Darkseid and Highfather. The New Gods told the story of a war between planets that exist outside of the DC multiverse — New Genesis and Apokolips — and featured Darkseid discovering that humanity held the key to the Anti-Life Equation.
Warner Bros. currently has Aquaman slated to hit theaters December 21, 2018, followed by Shazam! on April 5, 2019, and the Wonder Woman sequel on November 1, 2019.
