Cena recently revealed how the WWE influenced his move into acting.
John revealed:
Originally my film career was a direction from upper management in WWE – like, ‘Hey, go do movies.’ Originally what I wanted my film career to be was an extension of the WWE business model. I understood.
He added:
WWE studios opened in 2003/2004, they began to film movies, and the model of the business was, ‘If we can make our stars bigger stars, they will come to see WWE’. Well, that’s what I wanted, but I didn’t want to go do movies.
John explained the difference between the WWE and movie making:
The process of making a movie is so different. It takes a long time, it takes a lot of people, and there’s nobody cheering you on.
In additional news, John Cena has also landed a role in the upcoming action-thriller Universal Pictures’ “The Janson Directive.”
Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia will be executive producers through their Seven Bucks Productions on the film.
“The Janson Directive,” was originally to star Dwayne Johnson but his schedule is so booked he will be stepping behind the camera on this project and putting John Cena in the hot seat. The project was originally being developed with Dwayne Johnson attached to star.
Sources say given his busy schedule, Johnson and the studio decided it was the best move along with Johnson as a producer. The Rock relinquished his title role to his friend and former WWE star John Cena who will take over the lead role and star in ‘Janson Directive’ for Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, reports Variety.
