When it comes to one of the coolest 80s franchises that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery is returning for a new reboot of Highlander.
Read on to get more detail on the upcoming Chad Stahelski Highlander franchise…
CelebNMovies247.com reports that the Highlander franchise has been confirmed to start production and reboot the highly successful 1986 action-fantasy franchise directed by Russell Mulcahy.
John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski previously told EW in 2017:
Right now, I’m very interested in doing the Highlander property,” said the director. “It’s scarily similar to John Wick. There’s great mythology, it’s got an action-design challenge. What would a guy really be like after 500 years of practicing sword-work? I’m still a stunt guy at heart. You want to reinvent gunfights, how do you do it? You want to reinvent sword fighting, how do you do it? And that’s where we are at now. I love the first Highlander and I think I’m in a pretty good spot. The creative team, the producers and the studio that’s behind it have kind of said, ‘It’s yours to play with.
Stahelski himself has been busy directing John Wick: Chapter 3, which opens May 17, but there has been little said about the Highlander franchise reboot.
Though, Chad insists that he still wants to bring a new version of the Highlander saga to the big screen. There is another movie he is currently involved in that is taking precedence over Highlander.
The filmmaker recently said:
I still very much want to go in and do Highlander.
Highlander had four films in its franchise; Highlander (1986), Highlander II: The Quickening (1991), Highlander: The Final Dimension (1995), and the final film Highlander: Endgame (2000).
The only problem is that the Highlander franchise might take a bit longer to begin since Stahelski is deeply involved with another fantasy book series by Richard Kadrey.
He recently said that he’s beginning work on a script for “Sandman Slim.”
Apparently, there is major potential for a fresh franchise that is a fantasy film so it appears its up his alley because he admits that he’s very excited about the project.
Stahelski reveals:
I’m a huge fan of a property I’m involved in, and working on the script now, called Sandman Slim, which I f—ing really really like. It’s a (fantasy) book series by Richard Kadrey. We’re working on the script right now. So, between those two projects, I feel very fortunate.
Chad Stahelski has two films listed on his IMDB, one is Highlander and the other is Kill or be Killed. Sandman Slim is in development stages at this time.
