Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again REVIEW: More Cons Than ProsAfter ten long years, the musical joy of Mamma Mia! has returned to the big screen with, but this time the movie was lacking the joy and happiness the first brought us.

CelebNMovies247.com knew the storyline for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again thanks to the giveaways in the trailer, but once we watched the movie, it was more like Mamma Mia: The Funeral.

Here our Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again REVIEW: More Cons Than Pros:

10. The movie started out on a sad note.

9. The sequences in the film, yet beautiful lacked the power of the first.

8. The songs of Abba seemed secondary and sometimes misplaced in the film. It was as if some songs were a struggle to find.

7. We were not feeling some of the younger choices for the adult characters. Namely, Hugh Skinner (Young Harry). Our second least favorite was Alexa Davies (Young Rosie). These two actors were just NOT working for us.

6. The movie never hit a high note, it played so much on the sadness and loss of Donna it was NOT a celebration of her. It came off depressing and sad the who time.

5. The movie continued to be a roller coaster of moments were supposed to have loved. Instead, each moment in the film where we thought it was going to turn around, another sad moment socked the joy right out of us.

4. Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) was excellent, but her love story with Sky (Dominic Cooper) barely touched on. He was such the catalyst in the first, it made you want to stand up, sing and dance in celebration. This time it missed the mark. It just needed one more scene of the two of them.

5. Lily James embodied the character Donna, played by Meryl Streep, but no matter how hard she tried to carry the scenes, the movie was so depressing, it carried a dark cloud over the brightness.

4. There was no reason to kill off Meryl Streep’s character and make the movie a failed celebration of life film recapping how she met Bill (Stellan Skarsgård), Sam (Pierce Brosnan), and Harry (Colin Firth). The movie should have been titled Mamma Mia: The Funeral.

3. Who thought to kill off one of the best characters, the catalyst of this film, Donna (Meryl Streep) was movie genius? If you wanted an uplifting movie, Mamma Mia! 2 could have been all that with Donna still alive. Instead, the writers and director made us tear up for 80% of the movie and then kills us in the end with her spirit overseeing a major event in Sophie’s life. It’s probably one of the saddest moments in the film.

2. The movie lacked the chemistry of the first. There seemed to be an ongoing disconnect with everyone. It almost felt like the actors all knew the movie was just too damn depressing.

2. The writers of Mamma Mia! 2 have succeeded in taking a great, fun, uplifting musical that made you want to watch time and time again into a sad, depressing, tearful experience. (Sarcastic) Bravo to writers and director Ol Parker, Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis for sucking the life out of Mamma Mia! 2 and murdering it! Thank you for Killing one of our favorite films.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again REVIEW: More Cons Than ProsMamma Mia: Here We Go Again REVIEW Pros:

5. The settings were beautiful, and Andy Garcia (Fernando) was a great addition to the film. His love story, yet predictable, still worked, but the director lacked the ability to capture those moments that just want to make you stand up and joyfully cheer.

4. Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) we can never get enough of her in movies. She is beautiful, talented and made her moments shine the best she could.

3. Christine Baranski (Tanya) and Julie Waters (Rosie) are everything. The two together shine. Their chemistry is hypnotic, they steal the scene every time and there was NEVER enough of them in the film. Their younger versions Jessica Keenan Wynn (young Tanya) she was good and Alexa Davies (young Rosie) didn’t give us the chemistry needed in their scenes.

2. Meryl Streep (Donna) when she is finally in the movie, it’s like a breath of fresh air, unfortunately, its way too late, and the scene is so damn sad, we almost had to walk out.

1. Cher (Ruby Sheridan), when she sings Fernando, the movie had arrived. She made her moment shine in the final scenes of the film. However, it was once again short-lived, choppy and disconnected because the director focused on the sad.

Bottom line: We ended up hating the movie because of so much sadness. We really felt like we mourned a death and never celebrated Donna’s life. The movie desperately NEEDED a rewrite before going into production to make such a depressing sad musical.

If you want to go out and cry for two hours, check out Mamma Mia! 2 It will suck the happiness right out of you.
