Let your rainbow flag fly because Marvel’s MCU is going to be more gay-friendly when it comes to some of their superheroes sexual preference.
Yes, you guessed it, some LGBTQ characters are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Continue on to learn more on Marvel Adding LGBTQ Characters…
CelebNMovies247.com reports that the MCU will get a bit LGBTQ in the coming years with new out superheroes. The funny thing is there’s already 10 who have been onscreen in the MCU, but not revealed.
Kevin Feige was recently taking part in interviews in honor of Ant-Man and the Wasp arriving in theaters next month. The man in charge of the MCU was asked point blank about LGBTQ characters. Feige simply said “yes.” When pressed for clarification he straight out said in regards to getting new LGBTQ characters:
Both ones you’ve seen and ones you haven’t seen.
Those statements make it clear that there is at least one LGTBTQ character in the MCU who just hasn’t been out on screen yet and at least one coming down the pipeline. Gay, bi and lesbian characters have been a part of Marvel Comics for a long time, so why not represent that on the big screen? Disney owns Marvel and the Mouse House is hesitant to feature anything even remotely controversial in their blockbusters. That is so backward since at least 50% of Disney employees are gay, or bi, and trust we know, we used to work there for years.
The Playlist reports:
That last answer likely confirms Tessa Thompson’s revelation that Valkyrie from “Thor: Ragnarok” was bisexual (something the director confirmed was cut from the film in a podcast with The Playlist in November). It’s unclear if and when Valkyrie is returning after the events of “Avengers: Infinity War,” but since she was not depicted as having been whipped from the universe it’s likely she may be part of next year’s ‘Avengers’ follow up (or not).
The “other” character Feige refers to, and would not elaborate on, could appear in the recently titled “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” “Captain Marvel” or the next phase of Marvel films the studio does not plan on announcing until after the next untitled ‘Avengers’ film.
Marvel Adding LGBTQ Characters, but here are the 10 characters gay, or bisexual already in the MCU but NOT revealed:
- Thor: Ragnarok introduced moviegoers to Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie as bisexual. Thompson and director Taika Waititi have said as much and the actress played the role as such. However, it wasn’t made clear on screen even though the original intention was to showcase that element of her character.
- What you didn’t know is that Korg in Thor: Ragnarok, a rock-covered bruiser who was revealed to be gay in Incredible Hulk #619. The movie kept that from being revealed.
- Next, Black Panther was also originally going to feature an LGBTQ relationship, but that also wound up on the cutting room floor. Another character which was insinuated by not revealed was Ayo is a member of the Dora Milaje, Black Panther’s all-female bodyguards. She’s not exactly a superhero, but she kicks serious ass and is on the side of angels. Ayo gets into a romantic relationship with fellow guard Aneka, and the two are torn between their love for each other and their obligations to their king.
- Another gay character was NOT revealed in Deadpool 2 like the rumors suggested. Instead, it was revealed in a joking way that Deadpool did have sex with X-Men Colossus. In case you are unfamiliar with the character here is some background – the mainstream Russian mutant Colossus began as a reluctant arms dealer but eventually joined the X-Men. After fighting numerous battles, Colossus forms a platonic friendship with the (still gay) Northstar.
- The other hero in Deadpool 2 was X-Force, Shatterstar who is gay—or bi. He started a relationship with fellow hero Rictor. Shatterstar appeared in Deadpool 2 but didn’t last too long so his sexuality stayed hidden.
- Deadpool 2 did introduce Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand, who identifies as gay herself) as a gay couple in the movie, but there was no embellishment or background.
- When it comes to The X-Men movies, one of the more popular characters Mystique, who is a bisexual. Though it is never revealed in any of the movies. The MCU only touches on her relationships with men.
- Marvel fans may know about this one – Another alternate universe mutant, a different version of Wolverine ended up being a mans man, lusting after the god Hercules. The pair travel throughout dimensions, hunting down evil Professor Xaviers while revealing their love for each other.
- Another gay X-Men character is Daken, Wolverine’s son, which is the deadly spawn of Logan who not only has his father’s healing abilities but can also give off pheromones to manipulate others. Tragically, the bisexual Daken turned to crime and murder, which led to an inevitable fatal encounter with Dad.
- Rictor is another gay character. He was introduced in Logan, but as always his background or sexuality was revealed. He is one of the original New Mutants team members and also an original X-Force team member, so hopefully, he will be in the X Force movie. His powers are generating and manipulating seismic energy and creating tremendously powerful vibrations in any nearby object, inducing earthquake-like phenomena. Rictor is an out gay man who is fully accepting of his sexual identity, and one of the few gay superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Rictor develops romantic feelings for Wolfsbane while on the New Mutants team. Wolfsbane is in New Mutants so maybe we will see more of Rictor there.
