Marvel is changing up the landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 50% more female-led superhero movies.

That’s right 2019 will premiere the first female based superhero movie, Captain Marvel which plans to breathe new life into the franchise. It’s Marvel’s way to even the odds since there are so many male based superheroes since the women remain severely outnumbered. Continue on…

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige admits that it’s time for a change and that the MCU is has “interest” in the idea, but he couldn’t confirm anything.

However, he did promise that his goal for the future of the MCU is to have female superheroes outnumber male superheroes.

Feige said:

Eventually, I think we’re going to reach a time where it’s not just… listen, it would be amazing to see all of our female characters the way we have seen … most, never all male, but primarily male. I think we’re getting to the point soon where we have so many great female characters that those are just our heroes as opposed to when are they all female, all male. It’s just the Marvel heroes, more than half of which will be women.

After Captain Marvel, the MCU is taking its first steps toward this 50-50 dream. Black Widow is getting her long-awaited solo film, and the rumored Eternals movie will likely be led by the cosmic superheroine Sersi. Beyond that, though, it’s unclear.

As for Thor: Ragnarokstar Tessa Thompson who demanded a female superhero ensemble last year. Feige loved the idea but gave no answer on whether it will happen or not.

Besides the flagship A-Force, there is the Lady Liberators and the Valkyrie-led Fearless Defenders. And let’s not forget the flawless ladies of Black Panther, who proved so popular that Feige is considering creating a whole new team just for them.
