CelebNMovies247.com has received word via Bloody Disgusting who dropped the news first that Scream 5 has been officially confirmed to be in the works at Spyglass Media Group.
Here is what we’ve learned:
Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group is currently developing the next Scream, based on the franchise created by Craven and writer Kevin Williamson.
Before Wes Craven’s death on August 30, 2015, the franchise kept a pretty low profile understandably and rightfully so after losing the mastermind behind the first four films.
Following his death, various filmmakers would get behind the camera for a television series that ran for two seasons on MTV and a third on VH1. The final episode ended in June 2019.
As of now, they can’t confirm whether it’ll be a remake, reboot or sequel, but the important thing here is that the series is finally getting another cinematic outing and Ghostface will return. We are hearing that, Williamson is not writing the screenplay.
This news isn’t all that surprising being that Spyglass is remaking Hellraiser, Dimension Films’ other property that is being written by David S. Goyer (Blade II, Batman Begins, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).
