The long-in-development Gambit movie on hold. We knew this was coming since Disney put a hold on all X Men movies.
Since the merger between Disney and Fox, the X Men franchise is the one that is suffering the most. Read on because Gambit won’t be happening anytime soon…
CelebNMovies247.com reports that Simon Kinberg, the director on Dark Phoenix and a key component within Fox’s X-Men universe has announced that Gambit is on hold.
Like Deadpool, the good news in all this is that Gambit will also survive the acquisition made by Disney since Marvel’s heads say that they will recast all major mutants as they bring them into the MCU.
Channing Tatum has been gunning for this movie since it was announced back in 2015 but Kinberg is quick to point out that the film has been placed on ice for the foreseeable future. The good news it that it’s NOT off the books entirely.
A key problem for Gambit is its inability to keep hold of a director for more than five minutes. Directors Gore Verbinski, Rupert Wyatt, and Doug Liman have all been all attached and all left as well. That is a red flag, so Disney put it on ice.
Here is what Simon Kinsberg had to say at this point:
I love the idea of Channing playing Gambit. I think we have a great script for it and I think it’s a role he was born to play. It’s a character I grew up loving and I know the fans love. So I suspect, I hope it will happen.
What does this mean? Well, Kinsberg had this to add suggesting that the Disney-Fox merger may facilitate some more crossovers:
There will be a lot of mixing and merging now and I’m all for it and excited to see.
Disney will have to act soon before it loses the support of Channing Tatum and Lizzy Caplan who are both attached to star in Gambit.
