We actually love Jordan Peele for his bold statement, but hey Hollywood does this all the time by not casting Black, Latin, Asian or Islamic leads.
Read on to see why Us director Jordan Peele said “I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead” in any of his films…
CelebNMovies247.com reports that Jordan Peele decided to become the guy that was making the decisions.
The Us director has made leaps and strides for his socially conscious horror thriller films and now he is putting his foot down for his projects.
Sorry white guys wanting to be a lead in a Jordan Peele movie, the best you can get is a supporting role or maybe a victim role. Instead of always seeing the black person die first in a horror movie does this mean a white person will get it first?
Well, Jordan Peele had this to say about his casting process:
These producers are making these decisions about art and comedy and they don’t know anything about art and comedy.
The cool thing now is Jordan is the one calling the shots on his career as a director:
I get to cast black people in my movies. I feel fortunate to be in this position where I can say to Universal, ‘I want to make a $20 million horror movie with a black family.’ And they say yes.
When it comes to a Jordan Peele movie, the director doesn’t plan on changing things up. His statement caused the crowd to erupt in applause, agreeing wholeheartedly with the successful director.
I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes, but I’ve seen that movie. It really is one of the best, greatest pieces of this story, is feeling like we are in this time – a renaissance has happened and proved the myths about representation in the industry are false.
Sorry Hollywood, Peele won’t be whitewashing his movies to fit a “norm” when a film is meant for a person of ethnic background.
Us is playing now in theaters everywhere.
