New Poltergeist Movie Reportedly In Development!
It seems that once again Hollywood is trying to do a remake of the 1982 classic, Poltergeist. You would think that after the first reboot that was an EPIC FAIL in our opinion would have been enough, but NOOO, the studio wants to do it again.
The original Poltergeist was helmed by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s Tobe Hooper who directed the supernatural chiller and made the film what it is today, a classic. It had everything, a great story, great actors, and a great director. Read on…
CelebnMovies247.com has the latest on the Poltergeist finding a new way to return to the big screen after the 2015 box office reboot bomb.
Poltergeist made back the $10 million production budget a dozen times over at the box office, as well as winning rave reviews and landing three Academy Award nominations. Inevitably, a franchise was born, one that suffered greatly from the law of diminishing returns in the 1986 and 1988 sequels. It was a massive success, but over time it became boring to moviegoers.
Not to mention the passing of the lead actress who played Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke) died. She passed due to septic shock due to congenital stenosis of the lower intestine. There were rumors that Poltergeist 1982 cast was cursed because it evoked spirits. After the first movie, the older sister played by Dominique Dunne was murdered by her jealous boyfriend. Dominique Dunne became a talked celebrity, her hard work paid off, but her boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney didn’t want that so he killed her. In 1982, after the success of Poltergeist took movie theaters by storm, John Thomas Sweeney strangled Dunn in her driveway, she went into a coma. Dominique never regained consciousness and died five days later. Her father spoke on her murder.
That is why the Dana Freeling character disappeared from Poltergeist 2.
In 2015, a reboot hit theaters and FAILED to impress fans of the original Poltergeist because the film lacked in all categories. The story, script, and the actors had no onscreen chemistry. NOT only that, they looked like they didn’t want to be part of the film. The bottom line is Sam Rockwell and Jared Harris are NO Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. Gil Kenan’s Poltergeist did solid if an unspectacular business in theaters, but another entry didn’t seem to be a priority for the studio.
Now, insider Daniel Richtman is now claiming that a new Poltergeist movie is in the works. According to Richtman, the new installment will see the return of Madison Bowen, now older, who finds herself being haunted once more as a young adult in new surroundings.
Maybe, just maybe changing everything about Poltergeist and the original setting could work. It will be left to the lead talent selected, the director, and having a superb script to pull it off.
