Berg’s exit comes as Zack Snyder’s Justice League is underperforming at the box office. Justice League has only grossed $572.1 million globally to date since its Nov. 7 release. The film cost $300 million to make, which had a lot to do with the Joss Whedon reshoots and extreme cuts.

One insider claims that Berg was the perfect sacrificial lamb for Warner:

Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Toby Emmerich said Thursday in a statement:

“This is something that Jon approached me about six months ago, and he expressed his goal was to ultimately be a producer at the studio. I first met Jon when, as a producer, he brought Elf to New Line, which remains one of the best and most evergreen titles in the library. We’re thrilled that Jon is partnering with Roy and anticipate their company being a valuable source of movies for Warner Bros. and New Line.”

With that said, Emmerich is expected to name a new person to oversee the studio’s comic book projects in the near future.

As for, Berg’s DC credits, they include Wonder Woman, which has pulled in over $800 million at the box office, and the upcoming Aquaman stand-alone, set for December 2018.

We previously told you that Warner Bros. was said to be releasing a directors cut of Justice League on the Blu-Ray/DVD. It would be a Whedon directors cut, NOT a Zach Snyder cut since his would NEED lots of editing, re-shoots, and cutting.

The fact of the matter is, Snyder’s Cut would require:

  • More editing
  • More filming (pickups and additional scenes to round out the edges)
  • Junkie XL to finish the score
  • More FX work to complete the crude, placeholder effects used in the rough cut

ElFanBoy claims that Warner Bros. won’t flip the bill for any of that, and good luck trying to get the actors back for more filming.
