Jason Momoa Joins Fast and Furious 10 To Replace Dwayne Johnson!
Continue on for the latest news on Aquaman star Jason Momoa joining the cast of Fast and Furious 10…
CelebnMovies247.com reports that sinc Vin Desiel couldn’t get The Rock to comeback to the franchise, he has recruited Jason Momoa for Fast & Furious 10.
Since Vin Diesel’s begging Dwayne Johnson didn’t work, Jason Momoa is replacing The Rock.
According to reports, Jason Momoa’s Fast & Furious 10 casting in what is expected to be an antagonist role opens up the possibility for the franchise to finally solve its villain’s problem.
Momoa joins an already stellar cast that has grown bigger after the events of F9. Promising to end the saga of Dominic Toretto and his family, Fast 10 and 11 will see the return of Justin Lin to the director chair with the mission to wrap up two decades of storylines.
Fast & Furious has had a very predictable approach when it comes to villains. To date, all of the main antagonists in the series played by renowned actors have either been redeemed or returned for another film after failing in the previous one and losing some of their appeals. While details about the story are still a mystery, the addition of Jason Momoa to the cast of Fast 10 shows that the franchise is at least aiming high again.
Given that Fast & Furious is only a two-part film away from its ending, the franchise no longer has the time to redeem or reuse villains. Should Jason Momoa’s character be the final antagonist in the series, this new villain could be the first to have some sort of definitive success against the group of heroes and not have his actions diminished by a redemption arc or by returning in other films. The fact that the saga’s finale is a two-part movie also allows Dom and his family to suffer a greater loss in the first part and only then win in the second one.
The tradition of an antagonist played by a high-caliber actor who would eventually switch sides began in Fast Five with Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs. The same happened to Jason Statham’s character who went from a scary villain in Furious 7 to a friendly partner in Fate of the Furious and Hobbs & Show. Even Luke Evans’ character returned for a brief scene in Fate of the Furious in which he helps save Dom’s son. The latest film in the franchise, F9 also saw its villain be redeemed at the end. So far, the only exception to this rule seems to be Cipher. Charlize Theron’s character, however, has suffered from another long-running series trope.
While not redeemed, the character of Cipher has been hampered by the returning villain trope. Previously terrifying in their first appearance, the antagonist returns after a failed plan being way less threatening and with their storyline already worn out. By making Cipher fail both in Fate of the Furious and in F9, the series has made the villain a disservice.
With only one story left to tell in a two-part film, Fast & Furious can finally have a one-off, impactful villain in the character of Jason Momoa. While the tradition of redeemed antagonists joining the heroes has helped the franchise expand its set of characters, it also has prevented the series from featuring a less predictable opponent. It is now up to Fast & Furious 10 and Jason Momoa to break that cycle.
